Our Story

With 25+ years of baseball and fastpitch coaching experience, we knew the athletes in the surrounding area deserved a facility that would provide the right environment for an outstanding training experience and professional instruction.

The Fastball Academy understands the best way for athletes to learn the game is within a controlled environment where the fundamentals are geared toward and provided for each individual player. With that in mind, we opened The Fastball Academy in the Fall of 2023.

“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” – Colin Powell

Owner/Coach

My love of diamond sports started with coaching my daughter who graduated from Lone Oak High School in 2012 and continued with coaching my son who graduated from Lone Oak High School in 2023. Both were blessed with the opportunity to continue their playing careers into college. Along the way, I was able to coach in and learn from some of the best organizations in the DFW area.

Over the past 25+ years, I have been blessed to meet many incredible families and their athletes. Then, to assist many of those players to achieve their own dreams of continuing their playing careers into college through hard work, determination, and sacrifice.

For my family, opening The Fastball Academy represents the opportunity to bring a fantastic facility and that same success to even more athletes in our area. Together, let’s discover what is possible!

Quinn Oertwig – Baseball (Batting & Pitching)

I started baseball as soon as I could lift a bat. I played beginning with little league, then select teams, and through high school as an outfielder and catcher. I stepped away from baseball when I had the opportunity to play college football at Missouri Valley College which was unfortunately cut short after my freshman year due to injuries. After college, I went on to play club league baseball and slow pitch softball in Missouri.

I began coaching when my son started to play 12 years ago and have helped coach at all different levels from rec league to now the AAA level as he has progressed further.

I have a passion for baseball that has never gone away. I love teaching, helping players grow, and achieve their goals while still having fun.

Taylor Guzman – Baseball/Fastpitch (Catching)

Softball was my favorite thing to do from the age of 4 until my freshman year of college. I played select/travel for Texas Elite, Tiggers, Taz, and picked up with many outstanding teams throughout my career. I lived and breathed softball. Even though I loved softball, I was a well-rounded athlete, playing volleyball and basketball as well.

I attended North Mesquite & Mesquite High Schools from 2005-2009 earning varsity all four years. We won championships as my teams progressed through many rounds of playoffs. I continued my playing career at Eastern Oklahoma State College on a full-ride scholarship. One of my favorite things was throwing runners out as catcher and from the outfield. That feeling is unbeatable.

Sharing knowledge and watching growth is what I am passionate about! I have coached my son’s baseball team to two championships, and I have a passion for teaching and making sure you get quality training that pushes your kiddo.

Ali Ellsworth – Fastpitch (Slapping)

My love of softball and baseball began before I was old enough for organized sports. My Dad, a former college baseball player for University of New Mexico, passed down his love of the game down to me.

Before long, I was playing on top travel teams and qualifying yearly for the highest level at the time, Invitation-Only ASA National Tournaments. One of my biggest achievements was going 17/21 at-bats at a national tournament in Seattle, Washington. I also had many invites to individual skill showcases, college showcase tournaments, and showcase tournaments to qualify for the exhibition game.

I had the privilege of training under former Texas Ranger Mark McLemore for hitting lessons, including slap hitting. I was a starting varsity softball player all 4 years of high school with district honors of 1st Team All-District for 3 years, 2nd Team All-District for 1 year, Defensive Player of the Year, District New Comer, and team MVP.
